On Friday, Pakistan beat South Africa in the first Test in Karachi by seven wickets. This win also marked a bright start of Babar Azam’s captaincy career in Tests. The win by Pakistan has also brought some changes in the ICC World Test Championship 2019-21 points table. In the latest table released by ICC on Twitter, it was revealed that Pakistan has now toppled South Africa to reach the fifth position.

Pakistan now has 226 points in their kitty with a point percentage of 37.7. South Africa, who are now placed at the sixth position, have 144 points with a points percentage of 34.3. Neither of these two teams have any hopes of qualifying in the final of the ICC World Test Championship 2019-21 which will be played at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in the month of June.

Nauman Ali, Fawad Alam set up Pakistan’s Test win

At the national stadium in Karachi, Pakistan team sealed the match on Friday, but they had been ahead in the game since the first day itself. After bowling the Proteas out for 220 in their first innings, Pakistan had found themselves at a miserable position with the score of 27 for 4. Fawad Alam walked in at this moment and steadied the ship with Azhar Ali. Alam went on to smash his third Test century, his second since his comeback. He scored 109 runs and had an excellent partnership with Faheem Ashraf as Pakistan toiled away with the Proteas bowlers.

Pakistan’s  first innings total was 378 runs after some really crucial contributions from the lower order. The huge first-innings lead didn’t intimidate the South African batsman as they batted quite well on day three. Half centuries from Aiden Markram and Rassie van der Dussen kept them afloat but the hosts found a way to come back into the match.

The debutant Nauman Ali picked five wickets in the second innings and helped Pakistan bowl out South Africa for just 245 runs. He got some good support from Yasir Shah, who picked up four wickets. After that, Pakistan chased down the easy target of 89. Fawad Alam picked up the man of the match award for his fighting century.
