The Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) announced the annual contracts for Indian cricketers on behalf of BCCI on Tuesday. The new pay grade ‘A+’ was introduced for the players featuring across all the formats and were awarded Rs 7 Crores. The other categories (A, B and C) were normal but also saw a significant pay hike in them. However, some of the key players missed out on a contract this year who were part of the same when the list was announced in 2017.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah were included in the top grade for their recent performances across all the formats of the game. MS Dhoni remained in ‘A’ like last year and he wasn’t included in the top category as he only plays shorter formats now having retired from Tests in 2014.

Who are missing?

The key name missing from the contracts list is of Yuvraj Singh who was included in Grade B last year under which he used to earn Rs 1 Crore annually. He has lost his place in the side now and last donned the Indian jersey in Windies in 2017. Though he is striving hard to make a comeback in the national side, it looks tough for the veteran now given the performance of the team in the recent past. Ashish Nehra was due to miss out on a contract as he hung his boots during the home season last year by playing against New Zealand in a T20I in Delhi.

It was surprising to see that the likes of Shardul Thakur and Rishabh Pant were not awarded a contract given that they are in the plans of the team management for long now. Moreover, Thakur played in South Africa as well and performed decently in the opportunities presented to him. Pant, on the other hand, is currently playing in the ongoing Nidahas Trophy and is being looked at as the replacement of MS Dhoni behind the wickets.
