Team India registered a sensational win in the second Test at Lord’s against England. Going into the final day, they were under immense pressure and the talk was around if they will be able to save the match. However, thanks to Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah, they shone with the bat adding 89* for ninth wicket to effectively bat England out of the game.
India set up a target of 272 runs in 60 overs and the hosts capitulated under pressure. The visitors won the match by a massive 151 runs bowling England out for just 120 runs in the last half an hour of the match. With this win, India now lead the five-match series by 1-0. The first Test ended in a draw due to relentless on the final day when many felt, Virat Kohli and Co would have chased down the remaining 150-odd runs.
After this win, India are at the second spot in the points table with 14 of them to their name. Their PCT reads 58.33 after competing for 24 points. They were docked two points for slow over-rate after the first Test much like England who still have two points to their name and their PCT is 8.33.
West Indies have 12 points after a memorable win over Pakistan
The only other teams to begin their WTC 2021-23 campaign are West Indies and Pakistan. The two teams played a thrilling Test which ended only on August 15. West Indies ended up chasing 168 runs with only one wicket in hand and even in this game, it was the tailenders who showed their batting prowess. Kemar Roach scored an unbeaten 30 to seal a memorable win for his team.
Thanks to this win, West Indies are currently at the top spot having won the only game they played so far. Their PCT is 100 and they would love to win the second Test as well. Pakistan, meanwhile, are yet to open their account. The second cycle of WTC has just begun and the matches have been so close already and we should be in for a close fight to make it to the top two of this cycle as well.
