Kusal Mendis’s cricket career

The middle-order batsman has represented Sri Lanka in 44 Tests, 76 ODIs, and 26 T20Is scoring 2995 runs, 2164 runs, and 484 runs respectively. Kusal has also smashed 28 half-centuries in international cricket.

Mendis was supposed to play the two-match Test series against England in March 2020. However, the series was canceled in the wake of the novel coronavirus outbreak. The batsman was also a part of Sri Lanka’s squad which resumed training after the lockdown was eased in the country.

However, this is not the first time a Sri Lankan cricketer has been involved in a car accident. In 2003, former leg-spinner Kaushal Lokuarchchi was sentenced to jail for a period of four years. The bowler had crashed his car into a pedestrian resulting in her death. Also, the reports suggest that road accidents kill around three thousand people every year in the island nation.
