Hong Kong World Sixes 2017 is currently in progress at Kowloon Cricket Club which is touted to be its traditional venue. The two-day tournament might witness an unusual incident in case one of the players of the Bangladesh squad get injured. Their coach Damien Wright might come onto the field as he has been named as the seventh player in the squad by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). This would be the first instance in any form of cricket if the coach plays a particular match. Damien is the former coach of the BBL franchise Hobart Hurricanes.
This is a unique tournament which is contested in Hong Kong and its popularity has increased this year by the inclusion of Test playing nations. Along with Bangladesh, Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and South Africa. Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) is also taking part in this edition and is led by Samit Patel. All the league games are being played currently and the winner will be determined on Sunday (October 29).
How do things stand for Bangladesh?
The Bangladeshi team is led by Saif Hasan and are looking to make a mark in this competition. So far they have played three games and have won against Sri Lanka and Australia. They had posted 93 in their stipulated five overs over the Lankans and restricted the opposition seven runs short of the target. However, they couldn’t go past the Kiwis and lost the game by 3 wickets. The Tigers had scored 82 while batting first which Peter Fulton led side chased in 4 overs.
In their third match against the Aussies captained by the recently retired John Hastings after opting to bat first, they scored 88 in five overs and managed to restrict them 6 runs short of the target. It was an exciting game as Australia lost from a winning position failing to score 14 runs in the last over.
