Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly hopes that MS Dhoni continues his good run of play in Indian Premier League (IPL) when Team India tours abroad in the upcoming season for their limited-overs assignments. Dhoni, captaining Chennai Super Kings in this year’s IPL has given all his fans a reason to smile as the veteran has bamboozled attacks in his own special ways.
Of late, Dhoni was criticized by many for having lost touch with the bat as he struggled to get the big shots going in limited-overs cricket for the Men in Blue. One of his knock against New Zealand on a flat batting deck at Rajkot, when Dhoni failed to get going with his 37-ball 49, had put him in the firing line and questions raised with regards to his spot in the team.
Ganguly hopes Dhoni to come good
This has been the story in this year’s IPL as Dhoni seems to have rediscovered his lost form and is, in fact, batting like he did back in 2005-06. He has been instrumental in blazing apart oppositions with his ability to attack the bowlers in the death overs. Dhoni has adorned the role of a finisher for his franchise and has mustered runs at a brisk pace. Ganguly looked mighty impressed with the way his successor is batting and hopes that he continues his good form in the future matches for the national side.
The captain under whose rein the wicketkeeper made his debut is of the opinion that Dhoni is a key player in India‘s limited overs setup given his ability to finish the games is unmatched. “Very happy with MS Dhoni’s form, probably he’s batting his best at the moment. Hope he translates his IPL form in international cricket,” Ganguly told India Today.
Dada also was astounded by the omission of Rishabh Pant from the Indian T20I squad for the tour of Ireland and England that was picked earlier in the day. That after, he has been so consistent for Delhi Daredevils scoring runs at a real quick pace in all situations against almost all the teams. “Another surprise omission is Rishabh Pant so selectors very rightly been placing their confidence in MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik,” Ganguly felt.
