Commentators are the one who increase the understanding of the game for the spectators – describing the proceedings in an indepth, interesting and entertaining way. More often than not, former cricketers turn to commentary to share their insight, understanding and to decode situations along with strategies for the television viewers. During the match they explain their past experiences which keep the fans engaged throughout the day, may it be an ODI or a Test match.

Commentators get paid really well for their job and if details are looked into, their daily earnings are huge. Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has been doing the job for a long time now and almost every time features on the list of commentators for Indian matches. He might not be a fan favourite as Manjrekar is often trolled on social media for his on-air comments.

The payment varies from board to board

Now as Manjrekar covers almost every India series may it be at home or away, let us take him as an example to gauge the payment that is made it to the commentators. According to the information on the website of BCCI, he makes more than Rs 25 lakhs per series. In January 2016, the former cricketer had received a sum total of Rs. 36,49,375 from the BCCI for the South Africa series in 2015. He earned the amount for working 12 days in total during the four Test matches of the series.

Similarly, Anil Kumble was paid Rs. 39,10,500 lakhs for being a commentator in 5 ODIs and 4 Test matches in the same series. If we deduce the information available, the Indian board pays the commentators as per their working days and the total fee proceeds to be a massive Rs 3,04,000 per day. Also, the payment depends on different cricket boards and it varies series wise.
