Australia opener David Warner has laughed off concerns over his form with the bat ahead of Australia’s next game against Sri Lanka. They won their opening game against South Africa but Warner couldn’t do much with the bat. 0, 2, 0, 1, 14 are his scores in the last five T20 innings including a couple of warm-up games and the two matches he played in the IPL 2021.

The southpaw is celebrating his 35th birthday today and isn’t really worried about his form. Warner stated that he hasn’t played much cricket as he was left out of the SRH side after only two matches during IPL. Prior to that he had played in the first leg of the IPL only having pulled out of Australia’s West Indies and Bangladesh tours in the lead up to the World Cup.

“I actually think people talking about my form is quite funny. I laugh at the matter because at the end of the day I’ve played hardly any cricket. The IPL, for example, I had two games and then basically wanted to give all the other youngsters a crack and what-not,” he said while speaking to media ahead of the Sri Lanka encounter.

Training is difficult on practice wickets, says Warner

Moreover, David Warner is being hard done by the quality of practice pitches it seems. He highlighted the fact that the wickets have been in use for a long time now with a lot of cricket being played in the UAE. The birthday boy is currently training on synthetic wicket to get his rhythm back and might soon regain his form with the bat.

“These practice wickets for example have been up and about for close to 12 weeks now. So training is quite difficult on them as well considering that the wickets are quite good at the moment. At the moment I’m training on synthetic wickets, some polished concrete to get timing and rhythm and moving my feet, so that’s helping me. I think Finchie did the same thing the other day,” Warner added.
