Besides some action-packed bidding, the opening day of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction also witnessed an unfortunate incident as auctioneer Hugh Edmeades collapsed midway through the event and fell off from the podium. Everyone present in the Bengaluru hall was left in shock as the event came to a brief halt. Edmeades was subsequently given medical assistance.  Follow IPL Auction Day 2 Live Updates Here.

Although the auctioneer is fine now, he won’t be able to conduct the event on the second day. As a result, Charu Sharma, who filled Edmeades’ shoes on the first day, will handle the reins for the rest of the auction. In the meantime, the official Twitter page of IPL shared a video message from Edmeades.

Hugh Edmeades expresses gratitude to fans and well-wishers

The auctioneer, in the clip, stated that he was fine but couldn’t take over the duties as he wasn’t sure of giving his hundred percent. Edmeades also expressed gratitude to his fans and well-wishers for their greetings. He also thanked Charu Sharma for taking over the duty on such short notice.

“I am sorry that I couldn’t come in the auction today. As you can see, I am absolutely fine but I just felt that I won’t be able to give a 100 percent performance, which is unfair to the BCCI, IPL and the bidders and importantly, unfair to the players. I just want to thank all the people from around the world who sent me good wishes,” said Edmeades in the clip.

“Also, very grateful to Charu for stepping in at such short notice and taking over the baton. The show must go on and he should be on hand to continue making a lot of money for fantastic players. I hope to see you later on but in the meantime, Charu, (its) over to you and good luck for your bidding today,” he added.

Meanwhile, the opening day of the auction event went action-packed as several names went big under the hammer. At the same time, several notable names went unsold. All 10 teams have more or the less have formed their core and are looking to complete the squads with some formidable additions.
