The match between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals saw the collapse of the three-time champions in the hands of bowlers from the opposite end. The Yellow Army lost the match by 16 runs, and the skipper’s innings has come under all the questions.

Actually, MS Dhoni did start hitting, but it was already late when a massive total of 216 runs was being chased. Faf du Plessis was the only bright spot in CSK’s batting force.

Later, when MSD came up for a chat, he defended him by stating that it has been long that he hasn’t batted. Also, the 14-day practice has not been of great help, and that’s why he demoted himself, sending youngsters up the order. However, his statements didn’t go well with Kevin Pietersen, who outrightly said that he is not ‘buying all this nonsense’.

“Yeah, you got to get up. You have to at least give yourself the opportunity to win the game. That’s what Sunny is talking about. When you see how close they went, Du Plessis started to go, then MS Dhoni started hitting at the end, and then they lost by only 16 runs,” said Pietersen in a post-match show to Star Sports.

T20 cricket can bite you very, very quickly: Kevin Pietersen

Pietersen stated that he was completely amused by the way CSK was handling things in 4-5 overs in between. They were just knocking casually and took silly singles. If they got serious from there, they would have easily got the game in their hands, 20 in last over is not a big thing to achieve, he said.

“It’s not about experiments, saying ‘oh it’s early on in the tournament’. Let me tell you, T20 cricket can bite you very, very quickly. You can end up losing five games on the go very quickly, and then you can end up thinking ‘oh my goodness, are we actually going to get into the finals?’. I am not buying into this nonsense,” Pietersen concluded.
