Team India is all set to resume their international duties as they will be traveling to England in the first week of June for a long Test tour. India will be up against New Zealand in the final of the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship (WTC) from June 18 to June 22. The same will be followed by the team locking horns against England in the five-match Test series from August 4.

India’s decorated speedster Mohammed Shami will be making his comeback in the Indian team after a long 6-month gap. During the first match of the four-match Test series against Australia, Shami sustained a fracture on his bowling arm and that kept him away from the game.

In the absence of the pace merchant, a few pacers including the likes of Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, and T Natarajan plyed their trade in the purest format and managed to make heads turn with their exemplary performance. Shami was all praises for India’s elaborated bench strength and hopes to impart his knowledge and experience to the youngsters too.

I am confident it will be a great summer for us: Mohammed Shami

The speedster is well-versed with the fact that he isn’t going to play for forever. “It comes automatically as after being in international cricket for so many years, I would like to share any input that the youngsters may want. I am not going to play forever, so it will be great if I can pass on something to the youngsters,’’ Shami told Gulf News in an interview.

Entering the final of WTC, India will be high on confidence as they registered a stunning victory over Australia in the four-match Test series in Australia. The same was followed by Team India thrashing England in the home Test series by 3-1. Thus, Shami is confident that India will be able to again play some extraordinary cricket and will experience a great summer.

“We have played some extraordinary cricket in recent times as a unit and naturally, the confidence level is high on the eve of our departure for England. If we can reproduce some of the forms which we did over the last six months, I am confident it will be a great summer for us,” Shami hoped.
