MS Dhoni is back at the helm of affairs for the Chennai Super Kings as Ravindra Jadeja has stepped down from the leadership role after a hard time in the first half of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Jadeja, who was named CSK’s captain at the start of the season, couldn’t embrace the challenge as the defending champions struggled under him. Even his performances were getting affected.

As a result, he decided to step down from the role and give the reins back to Dhoni. While the wicketkeeper-batter is one of the finest captains ever, he’s 40 and is not certain to play another season. Hence, the biggest question arises who’ll succeed him at the CSK camp. Giving his take on the same, former Australian spinner Brad Hogg stated finding an Indian option to lead CSK will be very difficult.

“Who is going to take over from MS Dhoni at the end of this year? I can’t see a player on CSK’s team list that can captain this team effectively and efficiently. They will have to go to the auction next year to find a player of captaining ability, and try to find an Indian to do the job is going to be hard because all the best Indian T20 players have already been assigned to other franchises,” said Hogg on his YouTube channel.

Notably, franchises have preferred to name an Indian captain, as only four overseas players are allowed in the XI. However, Hogg reckons CSK has no other option besides picking an overseas player as a skipper. “They will have to go to an international player. It will be difficult to find a player that will fit in to the balance and the game plan that CSK already have in place,” he added.

Notably, CSK is in a spot of bother in the ongoing IPL 2022, winning just three of their first nine games. Hence, one more defeat will bring curtains to their chances of qualifying for the playoffs.
