Indian batter Veda Krishnamurthy revealed that she had trouble sleeping, following India’s loss to hosts England at the recently concluded WWC 2017. The 24-year-old cricketer, who made her maiden World Cup appearance was left aghast by the defeat, despite coming so close to lifting the coveted title. The Indian eves had a very impressive outing at the World championships, finishing as the runners-up after narrowly losing out to England by just 9 runs in a scintillating finale. The shocking defeat was a bitter pill for Veda to swallow and it kept her awake all night.

Known for her aggressive and fearless batting approach, Veda played a gem of an innings in the finale, scoring a much needed 35 of 34 balls. However, it was not enough as she failed to guide the team home as she lost her wicket having played a rash shot. She culminated her innings with a lofted shot attempting an aerial shot against Anya Shrubsole in the 45th over. Speaking about the knock later, Veda said that she was cursing herself.

“I was awake the entire night after the loss as I could not wink of sleep. I think I finally managed to close my eyes at 4 am and then got up an hour later and was awake the entire day,” she was quoted by the Indian Express as saying.

“The whole scenario (whatever happened on the field) just kept repeating in my head. As a team, this where from we have to learn from and it is a valuable lesson for a young team like ours. It is a learning process for all of us and we can now evolve as better players. We cannot change what has happened but we can surely take the positives out of the entire tournament,” she added.

Krishnamurthy provides new dynamic to the India team

The Karnataka-born cricketer made her international ODI debut in 2011. She has been a crucial addition to the squad with the options she brings to the table. Veda can also chip in crucial contributions with the ball when the skipper needs.
