Prithvi Shaw, the Thane-born cricketer, has made an incredible start to his Test career. In the first innings of India’s opening Test in Rajkot against the Windies, the 18-year-old notched his maiden century and eventually went on to score 134 runs from 154 balls with the help of 19 boundaries. He eventually was dismissed by leg-break bowler Devendra Bishoo.
Following his knock, Sachin Tendulkar, the former Indian cricketer said that Shaw has quashed all the doubts surrounding the talks of whether he would be able to translate his incredible numbers at the domestic circuit in international cricket.
Shaw made his first-class debut against Tamil Nadu in Rajkot and he scored a brilliant century. Furthermore, the pugnacious potential racked up a ton in his maiden Duleep Trophy appearance.
“I’m sure it must be extremely relieving that he’s been able to get a big score in his first outing,” Sachin was quoted as saying in The Times of India (TOI).
“A big question mark always is ‘a guy has done well at the domestic level, now will he be able to do the same at the international level?’ However talented the guy is, there is always a question mark. And a century kind of seals it. The figure is magical,” he remarked.
Prithvi is a very good learner
The 45-year-old also reckons Shaw is a quick learner. Moreover, Tendulkar threw light on Shaw’s ability to adjust in different conditions and mentioned that attribute as one of Shaw’s strength.
“If you want to succeed at the international level you’ve got to be a fast learner. And Prithvi is a very good learner. When somebody has to perform and sustain at this level, and play cricket at different conditions across the world for a long time to come, adaptability becomes the critical factor.
I feel he has the knack to adapt to different situations and conditions. To me, that is Prithvi’s biggest strength,” the Master Blaster added.
After Prithvi Shaw scored the century, Sachin also dropped a message for him on Twitter and asked him to continue playing fearless cricket. The second Test is scheduled to be played from October 12 in Hyderabad and Shaw would be keen to replicate his form in the upcoming match as well.
