The 83 movie depicting the story of the Indian team lifting the 1983 World Cup was released last week. The movie showcased the story of the entire Indian team and the way the team performed. The movie is an experience for both cinema and cricket lovers.

In 1983, no one in their wildest dreams thought that India might win the World Cup. But, it happened as the team defended a total of 183 runs against the star-studded batting lineup of West Indies containing Viv Richards and Clive Lloyd, and Gordon Greenidge. With this win, the team also stopped the West Indies to make it three in a row as the team had won the previous two tournaments.

In the movie 83, Ranveer Singh played the role of Kapil Dev. Ranveer said that as he donned the 1983 World Cup Indian cricket team jersey, it pushed him to deliver the best performance for the audience. He also mentioned that he was really delighted that the movie has become a mass entertainer.

“I felt a deep sense of responsibility to do my best, contribute and anchor a film that is very important for our nation. It is a glorious chapter in our history, an achievement that we want the coming generations to know of and feel proud of their country,” Ranveer said as quoted by The Statesman.

“So, I felt duty-bound to my nation, to creatively propel and empower a film that’s so important for us as a people,” he added.

Ranveer also mentioned that he felt a sense of duty to the members of the 1983 World Cup-winning team.

“I felt duty-bound to the players of the 1983 World Cup-winning squad to recreate, represent and portray their great achievement and justify the cinematic rendition of the story befittingly and also duty-bound to Indian cinema after the struggles that the entertainment business has been through and to deliver a film that brings people back into theatres, that’s so important for our movies; a film that unites the diverse cultures of our nation into the bond of cricket and of movies,” he said.
