Australia limited-overs skipper Aaron Finch said that he wasn’t worried about David Warner’s form going into the T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE. Warner hasn’t had a great time of late after being removed as Sunrisers Hyderabad’s skipper in the 2021 Indian Premier League. To add insult to injury, he was dropped from their playing eleven as well.

Moreover, Warner hasn’t played a single limited-over fixture in 2021. In fact, the southpaw last played T20Is back in September 2020 against England in Southampton. However, Finch sounded confident with Warner’s preparations ahead of the multi-nation tournament, starting October 17.

We have seen him in great spirits, says Aaron Finch

“I think over the years, we have seen when he (Warner) is got to bat against the world (teams), he is far (better player). I have got no issues with the preparation that he has had,” Finch said in a virtual press conference on Thursday, October 14.

“We have seen him in great spirits, he is coming here with a great attitude and he is organising things behind the scenes, he is doing everything that he loves to do, I have got no issues that come game one he will be ready to go,” he stated.

Warner doesn’t have overly great numbers in T20 World Cups after his maiden appearance in 2009. In 23 games in the mega event, the left-hander has scored only 473 runs at an average of 21.50 with three half-centuries. In the 2016 World Cup, Warner got 38 runs at an average of 9.50.

Finch, who’s up and running for the World Cup after recovering from knee injury, said that the Aussies have the potential to get their hands on the trophy.

“Yes, it is the one that has eluded us. We have been close a couple of times but we have also been quite a distance off in other times. We are still very confident going into (the World Cup),” Finch added.

Australia haven’t won the T20 World Cup yet and their best performance came in 2010 when they lost to Paul Collingwood’s England in the final. The Kangaroos will be going into the upcoming edition on the back of series losses at the hands of West Indies and Bangladesh.
