Pakistan skipper Babar Azam played a crucial role for his side by scoring a patient 75 off 174 deliveries in the first innings of the second Test match between Pakistan and the West Indies. Pakistan was reeling at 2/3, and Azam, alongside Fawad Alam, stood up when Pakistan needed them the most, as the visitors ended the first day with their scorecard reading 212/4.

The duo was involved in a 166-run partnership for the 4th wicket. And, at the end of the first day, Babar Azam stated that he has been working hard on his red ball game. Adding that there are a few areas that he needs to work on, the 26-year-old stated that he tried to apply himself out in the middle.

Azam further added that it is heartening to witness an experienced player like Fawad Alam standing up for the Pakistan side in difficult situations, and opined that there is a lot to learn from Alam.

“I have been working really hard on my red-ball game. There were a few things in my technique that needed to be addressed. We got some spare time to work on our red-ball skills and we’ve tried to utilize it. I tried to apply myself on the crease today and Alhamdulillah, results are in front of you.

The way Fawad [Bhai] is playing, he’s showing the experience he has got and it is so heartening to see an experienced player like him standing up for the team in tough situations. I think we all need to learn from him,” said Azam in a press conference at the end of the first day.

We are happy with the current situation of the match: Babar Azam

Babar Azam further added that the Pakistan batsmen looked to play out session by session, and the side is happy with the way the match is poised at the moment. Azam concluded by stating that his partnership with Fawad Alam helped the Pakistan side come back from a difficult situation.

“The idea was to play session by session and respect the good deliveries. We are happy with the current situation of the match as putting up a partnership of close to 150 with Fawad [Bhai] has helped us come back from a difficult situation,” concluded Azam.
