Former Australia leg-spinner Stuart MacGill spoke about his horrific incident of kidnapping in April, which shook the entire cricketing world. The 50-year-old was shocked when at gunpoint a group of men had abducted, assaulted, and threatened him. He was not alone when the incident took place as MacGill was with his girlfriend Maria O’ Meagher.

While everyone alleged there was some involvement of drugs or some suspicious activity, the former leg-spinner cleared the air by saying that he was innocent and he was taken aback by the series of events that had transpired.

It took time for MacGill to come out from that horrific encounter and he spoke about it in detail as to how he didn’t do anything wrong. “I know that I have done nothing wrong, Maria has done nothing wrong. If people choose to think something contrary to what’s been presented by both myself and the police, then that’s up to them,” MacGill told Channel Nine’s A Current Affair in a recent interview.

Why many people speculated his involvement in the drugs was because his partner O’ Meagher’s brother Marino Sotiropoulos was introduced to Sonny, an alleged drug dealer who once was a regular at MacGill’s restaurant.

“We consider ourselves to be the innocent parties in this one. Part of hospitality is making sure the room works. We introduce people to other people all the time,” he told the program.

Police suspect two more people’s involvement in Stuart MacGill’s kidnapping incident

Apart from the men present during the time of the kidnapping, the police also found two people who came to the spot after the incident took place. In fact, CCTV footage captured the two men entering the spot.

“They bought some items that we believe are associated with the incident, so we are very keen on identifying and speaking with those two males,” Detective Superintendent Andrew Koutsoufis said.

When quizzed further as to how he knew Sonny, MacGill simply answered by saying he casually met him. “He was somebody we met through the restaurant and that’s all I’m pretty much prepared to say about that.”

Mr Sotiropoulos, Frederick and Richard Schaaf, and Son Minh Nguyen are the four men who have all arrested and charged in May for their involvement in the incident. All the men are in custody and will be presented in the court within the next two weeks. Later the police also cleared its stance on MacGill and told the media that he was not involved in any illegal activities.
