Former Indian batsman Suresh Raina is all set to launch his autobiography ‘Believe’ on June 14. However, the former batter recently opened up on the parts that he talked about in his book. Raina credited former Indian coach Greg Chappell for changing the team dynamics. He also shed light on the relationship between juniors and seniors in the team while he marked his debut for India in the mid-2000s.

Raina stated that Chappell should be credited for bringing the likes of MS Dhoni and Irfan Pathan into the team. The ex-coach should also be credited for developing the youngsters in the team, reckoned Raina. Talking about the dressing room atmosphere, Raina narrated an incident where a senior player came mocking him.

“I remember one of the senior players of the team came up to me to mock me, saying that I was the only one who got all the ‘extra’ practice sessions as if it was only me who was going to play the match. So, I quickly asked him to join me because I had no intentions to hurt anyone. For me, ragging was no big deal since I was used to that, thanks to my hostel life.

We did have some tense moments with some players: Suresh Raina

“But I wouldn’t say anyone ever got ‘ragged’ in the Indian dressing room. Believe me, I know what ragging is. We didn’t have that. What we did have were some tense moments with some players. There were instances when we would greet some of the senior players in the morning, and they wouldn’t greet back. But I never took these to heart,” said Raina as quoted by Mid-Day.

Raina was one of the most celebrated cricketers back in his time who used to strengthen the middle order of the Men in Blue. He rose on many occasions and pushed the team over the line. He stepped down from international in August 2020 just after his teammate and close friend MS Dhoni announced his decision of hanging the boots. However, he is up with his franchise CSK in IPL.
