Mumbai crushed Uttarakhand by a whopping margin of 725 runs in the second quarter-final of this year’s Ranji trophy. Mumbai’s Suved Parkar was the Player of the Match for his 252 on debut, in the first innings. After missing out in the first innings, youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a memorable century in the second innings and he has reflected on its importance in his career.

The 20-year-old registered his maiden century in first-class cricket in only his second appearance. Notably, Jaiswal made his debut in the format back in 2019, but due to duties with the U19 side and the pandemic, he did not get any further opportunities in the domestic circuit. But in Mumbai’s second quarterfinal, the southpaw got a chance to showcase his talents in Ranji cricket.

The batter hailing from Uttar Pradesh emphasized the importance of this century as it will have a morale-boosting effect going into the semi-finals. The southpaw also hailed his ton for Mumbai as memorable as it was his first century in Ranji cricket and feels that all the hard work is paying off now.

“It matters a lot to me. I will always remember my first century, it will forever be memorable. It’s good for my morale and mindset. All the hard work is paying off. It’s been almost four years since I played a Ranji match. Then came the Under-19 World Cup, and COVID came. Didn’t get a chance in the first three games,” Jaiswal said to Sportstar.

I believe in myself, I am confident about my abilities: Yashasvi Jaiswal said after scoring his maiden FC ton

The left-handed batter had a poor start to IPL 2022 and was even dropped from the playing XI. But a rejuvenated Jaiswal played a pivotal role for Rajasthan Royals in the second half of the season as they finished as runners-up in this year’s edition of the IPL.

“Even in the IPL, it was the same. I played the first three games and then I was out for the next seven. Did well on my comeback. All this time, I kept myself motivated. These experiences are a part of my learning. I believe in myself, I am confident about my abilities,” the southpaw added.
