David Miller has revealed the advice he received from South African batting legend Hashim Amla. Miller stated that there is a saying that goes that a player is only as good as the previous match that he has played.

However, Miller revealed that Amla told him that a player is only as good as the next match that he plays. Miller also added that a player should reset his clock and try to remain in the present.

“The famous old saying is that you are only as good as your last game, but Hashim always said to me (you’re only as good as) your next game. It’s about resetting the clock and the mind, and trying to control and really be in the present,” said Miller as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo.

I had the privilege of playing with Hashim Amla for many years: David Miller

David Miller also stated that he had the privilege of playing alongside Hashim Amla for a number of years and he has learnt from the South African legend that failure should not let a person down. Miller further opined that a player should strive for consistency both on the field as well as off the field.

“I had the privilege to play with him for many, many years and I suppose what I have learnt from him is to not let failure get you down. We are striving for consistency in performance and, off the field, trying to be a consistent person as well,” said Miller.

Miller also added that he has enjoyed the calm nature of Hashim Amla and the 38-year-old has been the silent assassin of the South African side. Adding that he has enjoyed the journey with Amla, Miller concluded by stating that he is in touch with Amla and will continue to turn to the veteran for advice during the 2021 T20 World Cup as well.

“That’s what I have really enjoyed about Hashim and his influence, being nice and calm, being a pillar of strength; the silent assassin. He was about getting the job done but more so, being nice and consistent as a person. It has been a good journey with him and I still keep in touch with him and will continue to do that during this World Cup for any advice,” concluded Miller.
