Shoaib Akhtar is one of the quickest bowlers of all time while Tendulkar is hailed as the ‘God of cricket’ by millions of fans across the world. Sachin and Akhtar came up against each other on several occasions in their respective careers and got the better of each other. Shoaib’s rivalry with the ‘Master Blaster’ was one of the famous rivalries of the cricket world. Former Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag was the one who got to witness this epic rivalry from the best place possible– from the non-striker end.

India and Pakistan have some interesting tales which are part of cricketing folklore. One such story is of Sachin Tendulkar hitting Shoaib Akhtar for a six and Virender Sehwag sledging him saying, “Baap Baap hota hai, beta beta hota hai”. Sehwag had narrated this incident in an award show back in 2010. However, the Pakistan speedster had denied having any such conversation with the Indian batsman saying that Gautam Gambhir is a proof to it.

This time the speedster again spoke on this famous incident. When the PakPassion Editor Saj Sadiq asked Shoaib about Sehwag saying something to him related to Tendulkar, Akhtar replied that if anything like that would have happened, he would have beaten him (Sehwag) on the ground only. He further added Sehwag would not have survived after saying this to him.

Sadiq tweeted, “Question: Sehwag said something to you about Tendulkar, (referring to the Beta beta hota hai, baap baap hota hai story) Shoaib Akhtar “Would he survive after saying something like that to me? Would I leave him? I would beat him up at the ground and then at the hotel”

The backstory behind Virender Sehwag sledging Shoaib Akhtar

In Sehwag’s words, in a match against Pakistan, he was batting close to 200 with Sachin on the non-striker end. Narrating the incident, the Delhi Stalwart said that probably Shoaib was tired after bowling for so long and he started to bowl plenty of bouncers and asked him (Sehwag) to hit a hook for six.

However, Sehwag pointed to Sachin standing at the other end and told Akhtar that “Woh toh tera baap khada hai, usko daal woh marega (That’s your father standing there, bowl to him he will hit you).”

Well, that is what exactly happened. When the speedster bowled a bouncer to the Master Blaster, he dispatched it into the stands. This is when Sehwag sledged Akhtar saying, “Beta beta hota hai, baap baap hota hai’ (Son cannot dominate the father)”
