I would love to hit sixes than sit in isolation: Chris Lynn

The business end of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020 was hit by the coronavirus scare — so much so that a number of foreign players decided to leave for home and the organizers decided to replace the playoffs with traditional semi-finals and the final was brought ahead by four days. But on Sunday, the final day of the league phase, the PSL turned into an exciting affair, thanks to dashing Australian batsman Chris Lynn hitting his career-best hundred in the T20s to take his team Lahore Qalandars into the semi-finals.

Lynn hit 113 not out in 55 balls in the crunch game at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore in which the home team was set a target of 187 by table-toppers Multan Sultans but it did the same in style. The Australian hit 12 fours and eight sixes in his knock which was only the second in T20 cricket. The Qalandars beat the Sultans by nine wickets and with seven balls to spare.

After playing his innings and picking the man of the match award, Lynn said he would hate to sit at home in isolation because of the coronavirus scare and rather play matches and hit sixes.

“I generally just like winning and if I go home I have to sit in isolation for two weeks so I would rather be playing here and hitting sixes. I would have missed out on it if I had gone home,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

The Qalandars are the only franchise that has all its overseas players available for the tournament till date unlike teams like Peshawar Zalmi that have been seriously depleted.

“The situation is different in England as compared to Australia but I’m really proud of the Qalandars’ overseas playing group because they stuck together. We do have a player leaving tonight but he has obviously got a young kid and family comes first because that is a big thing in this franchise and we stick by that,” Lynn, who comes from a country with a serious coronavirus scenario, said.

Chris Lynn to leave Lahore Qalandars ahead of semi-final

The Qalandars will take on Karachi Kings at home in the second semi-final on Tuesday. Unfortunately, the dashing batsman Lynn has to leave the team keeping border restrictions in mind amid Coronavirus pandemic. Lynn has given an inspiring message to his teammates before leaving Pakistan.

“I think we play our best cricket when our backs are against the wall and I think we are coming good at the right time. We are playing good and if we play really go, watch out,” Lynn said.

“We have got a point to prove against them [Karachi Kings] because they beat us by ten wickets the other night. We are back on our home turf and we get to have another crack at it. I think they are the team to beat because they are well structured and well balanced,” he added.
