Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is one influential team that is struggling hard to find back its rhythm in IPL 2020. The three-time champions looked all good when they kicked their IPL 2020 journey on a winning note by defeating defending champions Mumbai Indians in the tournament opener.

However, their outings after that have been quite forgettable, and they are struggling to display a good game. One of the factors of concern for them is the form of opener Shane Watson, who hasn’t been getting anything good in his bag in this season.

It is expected that skipper MS Dhoni might replace him in their upcoming match against Kings XI Punjab. Talking in the same context, former cricketer and IPL-winning captain for KKR, Gautam Gambhir, stated that if he had this chance, he would never keep Watson aside of the Playing XI.

In the IPL 2020 so far, Watson has been featured in all the games for CSK and has scored in a total of 52 runs at an average of 13 runs by maintaining the strike-rate of 108.33.

“I would never drop Shane Watson because their entire batting order looks so rusty. Kedar Jadhav looks rusty. Ambati Rayudu looks rusty. I know Shane Watson is not in the best of forms, imagine replacing Shane Watson with Ruturaj Gaekwad? Obviously, he is a young cricket, developing cricket. Or Murali Vijay? I would back Shane Watson for another 4-5 games,” said Gambhir in a chat show on ESPNCricinfo.

You got to back your best batsman: Gautam Gambhir

Gambhir further stated that it’s a difficult situation for Dhoni, but at this time, he should back his best batsman. He may not be doing well now but has the capacity of winning games anytime in the future.

“I know it’s a tricky situation for MS, but you got to back your best batsman. A batsman who can wins game if he comes off good. At the moment, he has not, but he can come at any time, you never know,” concluded Gambhir.

Chennai Super Kings are ready to face Kings XI Punjab in their next contest in IPL 2020. Even the Punjab side isn’t having a good time in IPL 2020 and both these teams are poised at the bottom of the points table.
