There’s always a huge debate on picking the current best batsman across all three formats. The contenders for this debate will mostly be Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Joe Root, Kane Williamson, David Warner and AB de Villiers. Statistically, Kohli looks to be on top of all these players.
When asked to pick the current best batsman across all three formats, the former Aussie skipper Ian Chappell was quick to answer that he loves watching the Indian skipper bat. He rated Virat’s Adelaide knock in the second innings against Australia in 2014 as the best counter-attacking inning he has seen thus far.
“It’s more about who you like to watch. And I like watching Virat Kohli play. I thought the innings he played in Adelaide in the second innings (of the first Test of the 2014 tour) was the best counterattacking knock I have ever seen. So I think, he has the game for across formats,” said Chappell during an exclusive interview with India Today.
Chappell added that he enjoys watching David Warner batting alongside Virat Kohli. He also felt sad for the ban period Warner is facing at the moment. The former Aussie said that he likes watching aggressive players, because of them scoring big runs.
‘Virat is the one I enjoy watching the most along with David Warner. I am sad Warner won’t be there for 12 months. I guess it’s the aggressive players I like watching. Because you can only have success as a batsman if you are scoring big runs. If you are thinking of survival, you are in trouble as a batsman. These two are my favourites,” he added.
Virat Kohli is currently leading Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2018. He seems to be positive and is ready to lift the title this year. RCB is yet to win an IPL title in 10-year tournament history.
