Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan were among the Bangladesh players to make big gains after the second and final Test, which their team won by an innings and 184 runs. Mehidy was the star of the show for Bangladesh, picking up 7/58 and 5/59. The first-innings effort was the best in an innings for the 21-year-old off-spinner, while the match haul of 12/117 was his best in a game for him too.

As a result, he moved up 14 spots to No.16 in the MRF Tyres ICC Test Player Rankings for bowlers, his best ever, with a career-high 696 points. Among the bowlers, there were no other major changes in the top 10 apart from Pakistan’s Dubai hero Yasir Shah swapping positions with the out-of-action Jason Holder and moving up a step in the ladder to No.9.

Over to the batting chart, and while there were no changes in the top 20 at the end of Bangladesh’s 2-0 series sweep, Shakib moved up seven places to No.21 after scoring 80 in the team’s only innings. Mahmudullah, who top-scored for Bangladesh with 136 from No.7, also gained big, up 15 places to 48th place, but Mominul Haque (down two places to No.26) and Mushfiqur Rahim (down seven to No.28) lost ground.

Also moving down were many of the Windies batsmen – Kraigg Brathwaite (down seven to No.33) and Roston Chase (down nine to No.46), for example – but rising star Shimron Hetmyer kept his upwards movement going.

Hetmyer, batting low down in the middle order, had hit 63 and 27 in the first Test, and followed it up with 39 in the first innings and a frenetic 92-ball 93 in the second, where he smashed nine sixes and a four even as Bangladesh closed in on victory. That left him with a career-high 506 points and a career-best 52nd spot (up by 28) in the rankings.

Among the Windies bowlers, who had a rough time as Bangladesh put up 508, Jomel Warrican made some gains, his 2/91 taking him up two spots to No.69.
