Following a year that has once again been dominated by home-advantage, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the rest of their members have formulated a proposal to ban substandard pitches from international cricket following a few complaints from cricketers who have not been happy with wickets that have not gone in their favor. The ICC has had its fair share of wickets that have this particular issue, but the fact is that they are proposing a system to do the same only now.

The Indian wickets in the World T20 last year, especially the wicket at Nagpur had come under severe criticism following some of the matches that had been played there. However, with the new system in place, it would seem as though there would be at least one or two demerit points against the wicket in Nagpur that has seen a lot of critics and a lot of flak as well directed towards them for the same.

A statement from the ICC read that a system of demerit points, similar to that for a player would come into place for a rolling five-year period. Should the venue accumulate five demerit points over these five years, it would then receive a ban for 12 months.

“It was agreed that a system of demerit points be introduced, similar to the new Code of Conduct System as per the table below. Demerit points will remain active for a rolling five-year period,” the global body said in a statement.

“When a venue accumulates five demerit points its ICC accreditation will be suspended for a period of 12 months. Should a venue reach 10 points its accreditation will be suspended for 24 months,” it added.
