T20 cricket has played a huge role in the development of the game and may prove to be the catalyst in taking cricket to new shores, writes ICC Hall of Famer Belinda Clark.

“T20 cricket has been a game changer for cricket and the women’s game has benefited enormously from this format. The growth in the game has been phenomenal, at both ends of the spectrum. It is happening at the international level with more teams challenging each other, and the impact has also been felt at community and school levels, where girls are turning up in droves to play the game,” writes Clark.

“The volume of cricket being broadcast has had a remarkable impact on the game and the perceptions of it. Every time women are seen playing on TV, a number of people watch it for the first time, and they are amazed by the quality of the players,” adds Clark, a member of ICC’s Cricket Committee.

“The game is moving forward very quickly and I think in 10 years, the teams in these events would have expanded, some non-traditional cricket countries would be playing in these events and challenging the big guns. The game would have continued to spread across the globe and will be laying down a strong platform for girls to participate in any country,” she shares her vision of the women’s game.

Clark hopes for a great support to the teams

“I hope that there is great support for the teams in the round-robin which is rewarded, as in England, by some hard-fought, close group games. I also hope that the pitches are fast and true, that batters get value for their shots but that bowlers with control of their variations are rewarded,” she further added.

Also, there will be an option for the captains to opt for the Decision Review System for the first in the history of the Women’s World T20. “Captains will have the opportunity to call on the Decision Review System for the first time in T20 World Cup history; a tactic which could change the course of a game,” Clark wrote.
