It is all smiles for cricket fans in Pakistan as the sport has made a resounding comeback in the country. Following the World XI T20I tour and the exciting Pakistan Super League (PSL), this time it’ll be West Indies who’ll tour Pakistan for a T20I series. Reportedly, officials from the International Cricket Council (ICC) will also be present during the games.

Windies will be touring Pakistan for a 3-match T20I series, beginning on April 1. Following the opening match, there’ll be two more matches on April 2 and 3. All the three matches of the series are scheduled to be played at the National Stadium, Karachi. Previously, ICC officials had presided over the World XI tour that had taken place in the country in 2017.

ICC assigns David Boon as match referee

If reports are to be believed, it’ll be a small party of eminent ICC officials who’ll travel to Pakistan to attend the T20I games. As quoted by Dawn from a source, “The ICC has appointed David Boon as match referee for the three T20 Internationals against the West Indies. ICC general manager cricket, Geoff Allardice, and ICC senior manager umpires and referees, Adrian Griffith, will also be in Karachi for the series.”

The tour had been scheduled for November last year but had to be postponed. Unfavourable weather conditions in Karachi, as well as prior commitments of the Windies players in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), has propelled the postponement.

Karachi’s National Stadium had previously successfully hosted the crucial and enthralling final match of the PSL between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi, where the former had emerged as the winning side. Further, the smooth and seamless hosting of the World XI for a high-octane T20I series last year which Pakistan won resoundingly, prompted the breaking open of cricketing floodgates in the country much to the delight of fans. The National Stadium will witness the Sarfraz Ahmed-led Pakistan take on the West Indies, who have recently qualified for the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
