It’s almost like going for a vintage car in an era of flashy automobiles. The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently posted a picture of MS Dhoni as its cover image on Twitter following his phenomenal return to form and the fans are loving it. The ace Indian wicketkeeper-batsman hit three back-to-back fifties in the recent ODI series against Australia, helping India win their first 50-overs bilateral series Down Under and clinching the Man of the Series award.

While his 96-ball 51 in Sydney failed to convince the critics about his ability to play the limited-over format yet, the 55 not out off 54 balls and 87 not out off 114 balls in Adelaide and Melbourne, respectively, sealed the debate once for all. In the last two games, Dhoni remained till the end to see India winning by 6 wickets and 7 wickets, respectively, and win the series 2-1 after losing the first match.

Dhoni hit form at the right time

After a long bad patch with the bat and the fast rise of Rishabh Pant in international cricket, Dhoni’s place in the side increasingly came under questioning. He was also dropped for a couple of T20I series against the Windies and Australia which gave rise to speculation that he might not eventually make it to the squad for the World Cup due in May-July.

But Dhoni eventually hit form and may be at the right time. He also made a comeback to the T20I squad for the New Zealand series. Even though he still remains a slow starter but the 37-year-old showed in Australia that he is still capable of accelerating towards the end to make targets look easy.

The fans will be waiting to see more such gems from the veteran’s bat during the ODI and T20I series versus the Black Caps. Here are some reactions from MS Dhoni fans as well as the supporters of Chennai Super Kings after their icon’s photo was put up as the cover image on the ICC’s Twitter handle:
