The Australian cricket is certainly going through a lean phase over the last few months. Amidst all the negativity and the brouhaha that has been surrounding the Australian cricket, the Big Bash League (BBL) comes in as a bright positive spot. The youngsters have found a good platform to showcase their skills. Among the many beneficiaries this season of this league is young spinner Lloyd Pope.
The 19-year-old leg spinner has played three matches this season and has been quite impressive thus far. Playing for the Sydney Sixers, in his most recent outing, he scalped 2/19 against the Brisbane Heat. After the match, he spoke to the ICC and remarked that he would love to play for Australia across the three formats of the game. He added that it has been his dream.
“I don’t know how far I will go but I definitely would love to play for Australia in all three formats. That is every young cricketer’s dream and I am going to try my absolute hardest to get there. I have to work on a lot of things – all three facets,” Lloyd Pope quoted.
Hard work in the nets paying off
Commenting on the hard yards and improvements that he has worked on thus far, Pope noted that he has been working on his pace and variation. He pointed out that he has been working on these things in the nets and it has been coming out good for him.
After going wicketless in the first two matches that he played, he was under the pump to perform in the match against the Brisbane Heat. He did not disappoint and ended up dismissing Jimmy Pierson and Brendon McCullum. He conceded that he did make a few changes and that helped him do better in the recent outing.
“We have been working on a couple of things in the nets, working on pace and length and things. I really tried to work that out. My run up is a little bit longer and stuff like that – I don’t know if you guys notice it. But it felt like a big change for me and it worked tonight,” Pope exclaimed.
