The Sydney Sixers were placed at the sixth position of the points table prior to their match against the Brisbane Heat at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). However, the Moises Henriques-captained team beat their opponents by 79 runs and moved the second spot below table toppers- Hobart Hurricanes. The Heat keep languishing at the bottom half of the table and don’t look in great shape by any means.

Vince shines with the bat

After the Heat won the toss and elected to field first, their bowlers restricted the Sixers to 68 in the first three overs and also picked up three crucial wickets. Josh Phillippe and Daniel Hughes got into double figures but fell prey to fast bowler Josh Lalor. Skipper Henriques couldn’t contribute and he became Brendan Doggett’s first victim. Thereafter, James Vince and Jordan Silk took the onus on themselves.

The duo added 96 runs off 51 runs to inject momentum into the innings. Vince failed in the first few games, but he found form and scored 75 from 46 balls with six fours and a couple of sixes. The Englishman was dismissed by spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Silk also went on to notch a 26-ball 41 with four boundaries. Lalor was undoubtedly the Heat’s most successful bowler with figures of 4-0-26-5.

Heat slump to another loss

Steve O’Keefe got rid of the hard-hitting Max Bryant in the very first over. Chris Lynn perished soon after to Sean Abbott. Wicketkeeper Jimmy Pierson was the third wicket to fall. Brendon McCullum looked menacing for a brief while, scoring 27 from 31 balls before young leg-spinner Llyod Pope accounted for his wicket. Abbott got the better of Alex Ross to send half the Heat’s side back into the pavilion.

The lower-order couldn’t show any resistance whatsoever as wickets went down like ninepins. Ben Cutting tried to bring his team back into the match. Unfortunately, Tom Curran castled him after he scored 28 runs from 26 balls with three fours and one six. In the end, Sydney Sixers bowled the Heat out for 98 in 18.1 overs. Abbott and Curran picked up three wickets each even as Pope got two wickets.
