The first day of the playoffs in the T20 World Cup qualifiers is done and dusted with. Netherlands and Namibia have earned themselves a tour to Australia next year. The Dutch, led Pieter Seelaar, defeated the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by eight wickets after restricting the opposition to only 80. On other hand, Namibia handed Oman a defeat by 54 runs. Both games took place in Dubai.
Meanwhile, Oman and UAE will get another bite at the cherry in order to qualify for the T20 World Cup. UAE will get to face Scotland in the first of Wednesday’s doubleheader. Scotland have been a tad jittery and it’s a chance for the hosts to make amends. Oman, on the other hand will be up against Hong Kong, who also had to go through a rather tough time before finally making the playoffs.
Pitch Report
Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai
The pitch has stayed fairly good for batting as scores of above 150 have come on a pretty consistent basis. Playing shots on the up hasn’t been all that difficult. There’s something for the bowlers as well. The leather has moved around a fair bit and the fast bowlers have a great chance of picking wickets upfront. If wickets don’t come early, then the batting team can run away with the match.
Weather Report
The playing conditions are something pleasant for the cricketers. The temperature can raise up to as high as 38 degrees Celsius. For the night game, the temperature will be in the low 30s. The humidity levels will go up as the day progresses. Needless to say, that there are no chances of a downpour.
