The world finally witnessed the much-anticipated visit of US President Donald Trump as he arrived in India on Monday at the Ahmedabad airport. He was welcomed at the airport by India Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the duo thereafter visited Mahatma Gandhi’s Sabarmati Ashram along with Trump’s wife and first lady Melania Trump.

From their Sabarmati Ashram visit, the Narendra Modi-Donald Trump duo finally paved their way to the newly-built Motera Stadium which has etched its name into the record books for being the biggest cricket stadium in the world. Built by demolishing the old cricket stadium, the reinforced Motera Stadium boasts a seating capacity of over 1.10 lakh spectators. The stadium was jam-packed on the occasion of ‘Namaste Trump’ event and the US President took the centre stage and addressed the audience as he began delivering his speech.

From thanking India for a warm welcome to mentioning Bollywood in the speech– Donald Trump left no stones unturned to heap praise on India. The US President even mentioned Bollywood flicks like DDLJ and Sholay in his speech. However, one thing that caught the attention of all cricket fanatics was Trump taking the names of Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli in his coveted speech.

Trump failed to pronounce Sachin Tendulkar’s name correctly

More than the fact that Trump mentioned the name of two Indian cricket’s stalwarts, what amused the fans was the manner in which he pronounced their names. While addressing a massive crowd at the stadium, Trump struggled to pronounce Sachin’s name. He pronounced Sachin as ‘Soochin Tendolkar’ and Kohli as ‘Virot Kolee’.

Despite Trump fumbling to enunciate the names of two legendary Indian batsmen, the audience broke into applause after hearing the 73-year-old’s speech. However, ICC did not spare the Trump’s fumble as it took a dig at the US President’s unsuccessful attempt to pronounce Sachin Tendulkar’s name. ICC tweeted a video where they can be seen modifying Sachin’s name to Soo-chin Tendulkar from their database.

PM Modi also addressed the crowd and thanked Trump and his wife Melania for visiting the Sabarmati Ashram. Modi also recalled the ‘Howdy Modi’ event, which had garnered much attention about five months ago. Modi also thanked Trump after he ended his speech and left the event waving to the public and fans cheering for them. Post the Motera Stadium visit, Trump and his wife are scheduled to travel to Agra in order to visit the Taj Mahal.
