Fiji’s horrendous run in the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup 2016 continued as they were beaten quite comprehensively by Zimbabwe. This is the second time in the tournament that the Fijians have been bowled out below the score of 100. Half-centuries from Sybrand Jacobus Loftie-Eaton and Niko Davin saw Namibia cruise to a nine-wicket win over Scotland. England overcame a resilient West Indian unit as they became the first side to secure qualification to the quarter-final of the tournament.

West Indies succumb to brilliant England

The West Indies succumbed to a 61 loss to an incredible England side who have virtually secured qualification to the Quarterfinals of the U-19 World Cup. Winning the toss, skipper Brad Taylor had no qualms about opting to bat first. Dan Lawrence (55) and Callum Taylor (59) once again starred with the bat while useful contributions were made by the rest of the batsmen. Gidron Pope made a brisk 60, holding the innings together before Keemo Paul’s 65 put the Windies within touching distance of victory. However, England pacer Sadiq Mahmood’s 4/42 ensured an England victory.

Brief Scores

England 282/7 in 50 overs (Taylor 59, Pope 2/45)

West Indies 221 all out (Paul 65, Mahmood 4/42)

Zimbabwe put an end to Fiji campaign

Fiji’s batting woes continued as they were bowled out for 81 by a resolute Zimbabwe side. Zimbabwean off-spinner Wesley Madhevere was the pick of the bowlers as he ended up with figures of 5/24. Once again, only three of the Fiji batsmen succeeded in compiling a score in double digits. Chasing a rather poultry total of 81, the Zimbabweans got there with relative ease, losing just three wickets on the way. In spite of losing two wickets early on the innings, Brendan Sly (29) and Jeremy Ives (23) stitched a patient and cautious partnership to guide Zimbabwe to their first win of the World Cup. Madhevere picked up the much-deserved man of the match award.

Brief Scores

Fiji 81 all out in 27.4 overs (Tikoisuva 19, Madhevere 5/24)

Zimbabwe 84/3 in 18.5 overs (Sly 29*, Baleicikoibia 2/19)

Namibia trash Scotland

Namibia secured bragging rights in the battle of the minnows as they overwhelmed a hapless Scotland by nine wickets. Having won the toss and choosing to bat, the Scots came up short in their quest to post a big total on a batsman-friendly wicket. Losing wickets at regular intervals ensured that the Scottish innings folded up at a 159. Sybrand Jacobus Loftie-Eaton (67*) and Niko Davin (52) laid a solid foundation scoring twin half centuries. Zane Green replaced Niko Davin at the fall of the first wicket, eventually pulling off a 9 wicket win.

Brief Scores

Scotland 159 all out in 36.3 overs (Shah 39, van Lingen3/19)

Namibia 162/1 in 26 overs (Loftie-Eaton 67*, Aslam 1/23)
