The 13th match of the 2020 ICC Under-19s World Cup, Group D will be played between Afghanistan Under-19s and United Arab Emirates Under-19s at the North-West University No1 Ground in Potchefstroom.
The match starts at 10:00 AM local time (1:30 PM IST) (8:00 AM GMT)
The winners in their respective first matches in the Group D, the United Arab Emirates Under-19s and Afghanistan Under-19s, will clash off on Wednesday. The manner of Afghanistan’s win over South African team was quite clinical as the younger side never really got excited of the same. Even the UAE team were quite professional in the recent matches as they defeated New Zealand in the warm-ups. They have a good number of players in their squad who are exposed to the International cricket at senior level.
The majority part of the match is expected to be under the sun but clouds are forecasted towards the end of the match.
The University Ground hosted two matches in this tournament with the first being the washed-out match between New Zealand and Japan. New Zealand made a solid start before the rain intervened the match. Later in the second match, Pakistan rolled over Scotland for 75 and secured a big win. Neither of the matches predicts the exact nature of the track but the Wednesday’s game could be played on a slower track.
Average first innings score: 75 (Completed Youth ODIs in 2020)

Ibrahim Zadran brought out his experience of playing at a higher level with a well complied fifty against South Africa. He scored 52 off 72 balls with 8 fours and was dismissed only when the target was two runs away. Imran Mir was quite opposite to Ibrahim as she smashed a 48-ball 57 and stood as the top-scorer of the opening match. He took to the charge of the South African bowlers by striking ten fours. The UAE skipper Aryan Lakra was clinical in his team’s victory in the match against Canada. He claimed two wickets conceding only 39 runs in his 10 overs. With the bat, Lakra scored 66 to set the platform in the chase. The medium-pacer Sanchit Sharma was quite lethal in his second spell with three wickets. He could cause a mid-inning collapse when to the Afghanistan line-up.
Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:
Captain – Vriitya Aravind, Aryan Lakra, Shafiqullah Ghafari
Vice-Captain – Abid Mohammadi, Ibrahim Zadran, Alishan Sharafu
Suggested Playing XI No.1 for Fantasy Cricket:
Keeper – Vriitya Aravind
Batters – Jonathan Figy, Farhan Zakhil, Ibrahim Zadran
All-Rounders – Abid Mohammadi, Shafiqullah Ghafari (VC), Alishan Sharafu, Aryan Lakra (C)
Bowlers – Karthik Meiyappan, Noor Ahmad, Fazal Haq
Suggested Playing XI No.2 for Fantasy Cricket:
Keeper – Vriitya Aravind (C)
Batters – Jonathan Figy, Imran Mir, Ibrahim Zadran
All-Rounders – Shafiqullah Ghafari, Aryan Lakra, Abid Mohammadi (VC), Abdul Rahman
Bowlers – Sanchit Sharma, Karthik Meiyappan, Noor Ahmad
Shafiqullah Ghafari recorded the best bowling figures in U19 CWC for Afghanistan in the last match where he picked up a 6-wicket haul. There is no doubt that the leg-spinner is a great talent but might not put up a similar performance. The UAE team has experienced batsmen and are quite used to play spin bowling. It is the reason why we have picked him only as vice-captain.
Afghanistan Under-19s are expected to register their 2nd consecutive win.
