Afghanistan and New Zealand have made contrasting starts to their campaign in the ongoing World Cup in England and Wales. For Gulbadin Naib’s Afghans, they gave Australia a tough fight in Bristol and also dished out a resolute show versus Sri Lanka in Cardiff. To their dismay, neither time could they go on and carve a victory. Consequently, the Afghans are languishing at the bottom of the points table.

The Black Caps, on the contrary, detonated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in Cardiff to start their journey. Thereafter, Kane Williamson’s men got an almighty scare from Bangladesh at the Kennington Oval where they got over by three wickets. As far as Afghanistan and New Zealand are concerned, the two teams have faced only once, back in the 2015 World Cup where the latter won easily by six wickets.

Here is the guide to select the Captain and vice-captain for Dream11 Fantasy:

Captain Suggestions:

Martin Guptill

The Auckland-born started the World Cup with an unbeaten 73 versus the Lankans. The knock would’ve given his team management a sigh of relief as he was going through a poor run of form. Even in the match against the Tigers, the 32-year-old was looking ominous but threw his wicket away to Shakib Al Hasan after scoring 25. Next time, he’ll be looking for another big score under his belt.

Mohammad Nabi

The 34-year-old Nabi has been a ranger for the Afghans in his career and he has done well in the mega event as well. The Loge-born didn’t have much to cheer against the Aussies, having gotten out cheaply and returning wicketless. Nevertheless, the experienced campaigner came back and churned out a four-wicket haul versus the Lankans. The Black Caps will be a tough proposition and he’ll be a key force.

Trent Boult

The left-arm pacer Trent Boult hasn’t picked up a whole lot of wickets but has been accurate with his line and lengths. He bowls in the powerplay and at the death, and considering that he hasn’t flattered to deceive by any means. Boult has the ability to run through a batting lineup as well, provided he is in full flow. The Afghan batting has had its travails and Boult may end up with a few wickets in the next game.

Vice-captain suggestions

Ross Taylor

Taylor is 35 years, but even at this age, he is a fulcrum of the New Zealand batting lineup. He has nerves of steel and it was on display when he scored 82 under pressure versus the Tigers. The knock also fetched him the Player of the Match award. He was the Kiwis’ leading run-getter in 2018 and has carried forward the form this year as well. The Afghans need to get rid of him at the earliest.

Kane Williamson

From the warm-ups, Kane Williamson has done decently in the World Cup. He doesn’t play shots out of anger and plays according to the situation. The Tauranga-born scored 40 versus Bangladesh, but he took 72 balls to score those runs and only hit one boundary. He looked a tad short of rhythm and only needs to inject some momentum into his knock whenever he gets his eye.

Najibullah Zadran

The 26-year-old Najibullah Zadran has scored 94 runs in the tournament. In both their games, the Afghans lost early wickets and thereafter, Najib took charge. He generally bats in the lower middle-order and can play the ambitious strokes on a regular basis. Against an in-form Black Caps’ bowling attack, Najib may again need to weather the storm if the Afghans churn out some early wickets.
