Beleaguered South Africa will be looking to register their first win of the World Cup 2019 when they lock horns against exciting West Indies in Southampton in the 15th match of the competition. The Proteas are well behind the leading pack and a defeat against West Indies will surely end their World Cup hopes. With three defeats in as many games, South Africa are standing on the verge of exiting the competition at the group stage. West Indies, on the other hand, are slightly better placed than South Africa with one win and one loss.

In their last outing, South Africa suffered a crushing six-wicket loss at the hands of favourites India. South Africa’s batsmen once again failed to deliver. Star openers Hashim Amla and De Kock were both back in the pavilion inside six overs as the Proteas stuttered to 34-2 inside the opening 10 overs. The likes of Faf du Plessis and Rassie van der Dussen (22) got the starts but could not convert.

At one stage, South Africa were reeling at 89 for 5. Chris Morris and Kagiso Rabada then added 66 in 62 balls towards the end to push them towards their eventual 227-9. In reply, India rode on Rohit Sharma’s unbeaten century to chase down the total without much trouble.

West Indies, on the other hand, threw away a great start against Australia to lose by 15 runs in a thrilling clash. Fortunes swung throughout the game before the defending champions showed their maturity to seal the game. West Indies had Australia reeling at 38-4 and 79-5. However, they could not find a way past Steve Smith and then Nathan Coulter-Nile as Australia recovered to post a challenging 288.

But the Caribbean outfit was still in the game as a 289-run target is very much chase-able nowadays. However, they lost wickets at crucial junctures and ended up on 273 for 9 despite Shai Hope and Jason Holder scoring fifties.

How’s the weather expected to be:

With so much at stake in the game, both the teams would love to have a rain-free game. However, weather predictions are suggesting otherwise. According to AccuWeather, the chances of rainfall of more than 50 per cent when the game gets underway. There will be a threat of rain throughout the day in Southampton. The cloud-coverage percentage will be around 94 while the humidity will be on the higher side of the 70s. As far as the temperature is concerned, it will hover between 11-15 degree Celsius.
