High-flying India will be eyeing another win in the ongoing World Cup 2019 when they lock horns against struggling Afghanistan in Southampton on Saturday. Both the teams have made contrasting starts to the tournament. While India are one of the only two unbeaten teams in the competition so far, their opponents are yet to gain a point.

India are currently fourth in the points table with 3 wins from four games. On the other hand, Afghanistan are reeling at the bottom of the table with five losses in as many games. A defeat against India will officially make Afghanistan the first team to be eliminated from this tournament. Both the teams enter this game on the back of very contrasting results in their previous outings.

In their erstwhile encounter, the Men in Blue thrashed their arch-rivals Pakistan in Manchester. Asked to bat first, they piled up 336 for 5 in the allotted 50 overs. In-form Rohit Sharma starred with the bat once again, scoring his second ton of the tournament. The bowlers then did extremely well to restrict Pakistan to 212 for 6 and power India to an impressive 89-run win (DLS method).

The only setback for India during that game was the injury to their pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar who had to walk off the field. Bhuvneshwar did not return again before the BCCI confirmed that he would miss 2-3 games. In his absence, Mohammed Shami is likely to partner Jasprit Bumrah.

Afghanistan, on the other hand, suffered a massive 150-run loss against England in their last outing. They ended up conceding a mammoth 397 for 6. Eoin Morgan top-scored for the hosts, scoring a career-best 148. In reply, Afghanistan finished on 247 for 8.

How’s the weather expected to be?

The last two days in Southampton were marred by rain but the forecast for today is very promising. According to AccuWeather, there are no chances of rain whatsoever. As far as cloud coverage is concerned, it will be in the 40s for the most part of the game. Thus one can expect to watch a full game without any sort of natural interruptions. The temperature will be hovering between 18-20 degree Celsius while the humidity will be in the 50s.
