With an eye on keeping their semi-final hopes alive, Sri Lanka will take on already eliminated South Africa at the Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street in the 35th match of the World Cup 2019. With 6 points from as many games, Sri Lanka are currently seventh in the points table. If Sri Lanka manage to win all of their remaining three games, they will make it to the semi-final without depending on other results. However, a loss could jeopardise their hopes.

Even if the Lankans win two of their remaining three games, they will have a chance of making it to the semi-finals. However, things can get trickier if other results do not go their way. Moreover, the road ahead is very tough as they will take on India and West Indies in their last two games. Thus winning against struggling South Africa is a must for them at the moment. The Proteas, on the other hand, have nothing much to play for except pride.

They are currently languishing at the ninth spot in the points table with just 1 win from seven games. Having lost five games in the competition already, they will be desperate to win against Sri Lanka. But on the current form, the Islanders will be the favourites to win the contest. Dimuth Karunaratne & Co. will be full of confidence after beating favourites England in their last outing.

Inspired by the veteran Lasith Malinga, Sri Lanka successfully defended 232 against the formidable English batting lineup. On the other hand, South Africa lost to Pakistan which put them out of the race for the semi-finals.

How’s the weather expected to be:

With so much at stake in the game for Sri Lanka, they would definitely want a full match to happen and the weather forecast will cheer them up.
