With all the hullabaloo about the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 and the various controversies that the opening round of the tournament has created, people have sort of forgotten that the IPL 2019 will be followed by the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, which kicks off in England and Wales starting May 30 onwards.

The Indian team has already finished their quota of international matches before the ICC World Cup 2019 and everyone is basically awaiting when the BCCI announces the Indian squad for the mega ICC event. Now the Indian cricket fans will be relieved to know that BCCI Chief Selector MSK Prasad has revealed the date on which the Indian team will be announced.

Date of announcement for the Indian squad for World Cup

The Virat Kohli-led Indian team is considered one of the favorites to lift the title given that they are number two on the ICC ODI team rankings. Prasad revealed that the 15-member Indian squad for the World Cup will be announced on or before April 20.

“We will be announcing our team for the World Cup on or before April 20. I am confident that we are going to announce a good team. We have worked on this for almost one and a half years. We have observed all the players, tested good combinations. We are confident that the team we will announce, will definitely win the World Cup to be held in England in 2019,” Prasad was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.

Places up for grabs in the Indian team

While most of the places in the Indian team are sorted out with Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and Virat Kohli being the top three. MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have confirmed their places in the Indian World Cup squad. However, still, there are spots to be grabbed- No.4 batsman, fourth seamer or a third spinner and the second-choice wicketkeeper-batsman.

However, Indian captain Virat Kohli had confirmed that confusion is present only around one spot, speaking ahead of the IPL 2019. “As a side, combination wise we are sorted. Only one change can be expected in the playing eleven during the World Cup that too depending on the conditions. Apart from that, we are clear about the playing XI going into the tournament.

Just one spot in the side that needs some discussion but as a side, we are pretty balanced. Once Hardik Pandya returns it gives us a variety of options. Just that we need to take better decisions when under pressure to go far into the World Cup,” Kohli had said.
