Untimely monsoon is killing a lot of fun at the ICC World Cup 2019, with a staggering three games getting washed out in a single week. This has never happened in the tournament’s history and the fans have been lashing out at the International Cricket Council (ICC) for not placing reserve days for the group stage encounters.
However, ICC came with a very plausible explanation as to why reserve days are not possible for the group stage matches. There was some cricket happening in places where there were no rains and although the games had enough entertainment in them to shadow the rain-marred action, fans kept fuming on social media over the games which never happened.
Nevertheless, it was an action-packed week in more than a few ways at the World Cup. Here are the ratings of the teams which had a chance to get on the field and complete their respective matches.
NOTE – Sri Lanka played two matches this week and both games got washed out. South Africa’s only game in the week came against Windies and that was abandoned due to rain. Hence, they are not applicable to be rated in this list and are not mentioned.
1. Afghanistan – 2/10
The only team in the tournament yet to open their account, Afghanistan’s 2019 campaign is far from what they dreamt. They played just one game this week which came against New Zealand. It was always going to be a huge ask for them to get a good result from this fixture and they eventually buckled down to the pressure.
New Zealand bowlers ran through their batting line-up for fun, bowling them out for 172 runs in the first innings. Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor starred with the bat as they chased the total down with minimum fuss in 32.1 overs. They are clearly not on the same level as the other teams in the tournament right now.
