Soon after the Indian Premier League (IPL), after a few days of rest, India’s World Cup-bound players will fly to England to participate in the upcoming World Cup. The mega event will be commencing on March 30 and India are definitely one of the major contenders to win the title. Along with the players, it will also be the test of the coaching staff led by Ravi Shastri.
He was pretty chuffed about the team’s success across all the formats away from home recently and believes a lot in the group. Shastri is known to speak his mind without mincing words and was all praise of Indian squad that has been picked for the World Cup. His role during the tournament will also be crucial as the Indian fans back home will be hoping that the team brings the Cup with them.
They are pretty balanced
However, while speaking to DD News, when Ravi Shastri was asked about the other major contenders to lift the title and India’s head coach was quick to pick England, the hosts. He pointed out that their current form is exceptional and also explained how their team is well balanced.
“England would be a very strong contender going by current form. The way they’ve played over the last two years, they’ve been the most consistent. They are playing at home so they would be the contender to win,” Shastri said.
Speaking about England, they picked their preliminary World Cup squad on Wednesday and didn’t include Jofra Archer in it. However, the Caribbean-born pace bowler was picked for the Pakistan series and will be monitoring his progress in that series. If Archer manages to impress there, then he might play for England in the World Cup as the squad can be changed by May 23 without ICC’s permission. Someone will have to miss out in that case.
