Australia is the only team to have confirmed their semi-final berth thus far and are likely to finish as table toppers as well. India (11 points after 7 games), New Zealand (11 points after 8 games), England (10 points after 8 games), Pakistan (9 points after 8 games) and Bangladesh (7 points after 7 games) are the teams in the race to secure a berth among the top four.

England, currently at 10 points, are the only team among the five in semi-final race that doesn’t rely on NRR. If the hosts beat New Zealand, they will be assured of a top-four finish. However, in case of a defeat, their fate will depend on the Asian teams and moreover results of two matches involving Bangladesh.

England will need an India win over neighbours Bangladesh and later, for Bangladesh to beat Pakistan. If India and England lose on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively, they will be out of contention and the Pakistan vs Bangladesh match becomes a virtual quarter-final and the winner will finish with 11 points thus sealing qualification.
