The news of Shadab Khan’s illness came as a shocker as the Pakistan chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq last week said that the wrist-spinner has been left out from the 17-man squad for the England tour. The Pakistan team, led by Sarfaraz Ahmed, is currently in England for a 0ne-off T20I followed by a 5-match ODI series. Post completion of the said series, the Pakistan team will stay back to play the World Cup.

The ICC event commences on Thursday, May 30 and will be hosted by England and Wales, wherein Pakistan will begin their World Cup campaign on Friday, May 31 when they take on the Windies at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. As the 15-man preliminary World Cup squad for Pakistan was announced earlier this month, the 20-year-old wrist spinner was also included.

But as Inzamam mentioned that the leggie has been advised a minimum of four weeks of rest, it instigated a World Cup scare putting his place in the final squad in jeopardy. He was immediately ruled out of the bilateral series against England that starts on May 5. Eventually, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) named Yasir Shah as the replacement for Khan in the upcoming ODI limited-overs fixtures.

Shadab Khan will play in the World Cup

Following the diagnosis of illness, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had set-up Shadab’s appointment with Dr Patrick Kennedy in England to help him fully recover. Latest reposts in Pak Passion suggest that Shadab, who has claimed 47 wickets in 34 ODIs at an average of 27.74, has been given the all-clear from the doctors and will be fit to play at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019.

Meanwhile, left-arm fast bowler Mohammad Amir and right-handed batsman Asif Ali, who are not a part of the preliminary squad for the World Cup, will have a chance to make their case during the bilateral series against England. While all participating national teams in the World Cup have announced their preliminary squads, there’s still an opportunity for them to make alterations to their mixes, without requiring permission from the ICC, until May 23.
