Team India will enter into the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 as one of the hot favourites. The side has been playing some great white-ball cricket in recent times, both home and away. With a lot of players competing for spots in the team, former New Zealand cricketer and current analyst Simon Doull had a say on the India squad for the mega-event.
Doull opines that a lot of the Indian players pick themselves and added that it is a fairly simple task. However, he felt that there is one slightly contentious point. He thinks that there is some competition for the all-rounder’s spots but was clear about the players whom he wanted to pick.
A very similar squad to that picked by Harsha Bhogle
On Cricbuzz, Earlier, Harsha Bhogle also picked his World Cup squad for India which is exactly the same as Simon Doull’s squad. Doull will have Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan as the openers. Then, there are no doubts about skipper Virat Kohli at number three. Doull has given his vote to Ambati Rayudu at four as he feels the cricketer has done enough to secure a spot.
MS Dhoni, having found his touch back in Australia this year, will bat at five. Then, Simon Doull prefers Kedar Jadhav over Dinesh Karthik at six. Jadhav will take the finisher’s role and will also come in handy with the ball. Hardik Pandya will be the all-rounder at seven. The Kiwi feels that Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav in the eleven are a must.
Then he was got to pick two pacers in the eleven out of three. Simon Doull wants to go with Bhuvneshwar Kumar along with Jasprit Bumrah. However, he feels that Mohammed Shami’s form puts extra pressure on Bhuvi. KL Rahul will be the back-up opener in the squad while Karthik will be the back-up keeper. Doull feels that Ravindra Jadeja will be the other all-rounder in the squad.
Simon Doull’s India squad for World Cup 2019: Virat Kohli (C), Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Ambati Rayudu, Kedar Jadhav, Dinesh Karthik, MS Dhoni (WK), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami.
