ICC World Cup 2019: Virender Sehwag picks his India squad for the tournament

Even as the Indian Premier League (IPL) is on its peak at the moment in the country, everyone is waiting for India’s World Cup squad to get picked. The 15-man group will be selected for the mega-event on Monday as the chairman of selectors MSK Prasad confirmed last week. While most of the players select themselves, the selectors will have to scratch their heads only for few spots.

The former cricketers have been giving their opinion over the squad for a long time now and a plethora of ‘number four’ players have been picked. Also, there has been a lot of deliberation over the back-up wicket-keeper for MS Dhoni. Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant are fighting for that spot and it remains to be seen who gets the final nod. Meanwhile, Virender Sehwag has jumped into the prediction game and has picked his India squad for the tournament.

Pant or DK?

Virender Sehwag has gone for the youngster Rishabh Pant ahead of Dinesh Karthik as the back-up keeper while also picking KL Rahul as the third opener. Rahul has been doing well in the ongoing IPL and has regained the lost confidence. This form should be enough for him to make the cut. The three pacers are quite predictable with Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar picking themselves.

However, Sehwag has dropped Ambati Rayudu from the team who is the frontrunner for the much-debated number four slot in the playing XI.

Hardik Pandya and Vijay Shankar are the all-rounders in the team while Ravindra Jadeja has also been selected by Sehwag. The latter is expected to play at number four then for Sehwag. Jadeja is a huge asset in the field and can play a crucial role with the ball if the pitches slow down as the World Cup goes deep. Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav are the two wrist spinners in the team and they will remain key for the Men in Blue.
