'If Dhoni bhai doesn’t play next season, I too won’t' - Suresh Raina's old video makes noise on social media after going unsold in mega auction

The IPL 2022 mega auction saw various teams splashing huge money over players and taking away their favourite picks. However, if there was one player who made a lot of noise in the mega auction, it was Suresh Raina, and obviously for the wrong reasons. It is to be noted that Raina, popularly known as Mr. IPL, went unsold in IPL mega auction.

As the UP cricketer failed to receive bids on day one, franchises didn’t even show interest in him on the final day. Raina’s base price was INR two Crore and it will only be for the second time that he won’t be playing IPL after 2008 as he pulled out of the T20 league in 2020 on a personal account.

In the same turn of events, one of his old videos is doing rounds on the internet where he can be talking of playing IPL 2022 only if MS Dhoni plays. Raina, who shares a great bond with CSK skipper Dhoni beyond the field as well, stated that he would only play the next season if MS plays.

And, if MS doesn’t play, he wouldn’t be interested. Moreover, Raina also added that if they win this season (2021) which eventually happened, he would convince the legendary skipper to play one more season.

“If Dhoni bhaai doesn’t play next season, I too won’t play. We’ve been playing since 2008 (for CSK), if we win this year then I’ll convince him to play next year too. I’ll try my best. If he will not play, then I don’t think I will play for any IPL team,” said Suresh Raina in an old video while speaking to News 24 Sports.

As the 35-year-old went unsold in mega auction, it raised a lot of eyebrows ad fans questioned why didn’t CSK fetch him after his services for so many years. Raina was instrumental in CSK’s success over the years and has 5528 runs (fourth highest run-getter in IPL history) under his belt while averaging 32.5.
