There’s very little doubt in the fact that Virat Kohli is one of the fittest cricketers in Indian cricket, if not around the world. When it’s about the yo-yo test, the Delhi-born gives his best shot and emerges amongst the top-scorers most times. The same can be comprehended from the chiselled body he has courtesy his rigorous fitness regime and strict diet to stay in shape.

However, it was a bit tough for him to convince his mother that he followed the fitness routine to stay fit. The 31-year-old said how his mother showed concerns when he started becoming lean. Virat opened up during a live chat with Mayank Agarwal, the video of which was shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on their official Twitter handle.

Every other day I had to convince her that I am not sick: Virat Kohli

“My mom used to tell me that I am becoming weak. That is a very regular thing, any mother would say. They (mothers) didn’t understand the difference between having concern and having professionalism about a sport you’re playing,” Kohli was quoted as saying in the video.

“If the child is not looking chubby, that means there’s something wrong with him or he is sick. So, I was always like I am not sick. Every other day I had to convince her that I am not sick and I am doing this because I want to play. It was so difficult to convince her,” he stated.

“That was funny at times but also annoying at times because you are following a regime and next day when you wake up and hear that ‘Tu toh beemaar lag raha hai’ (you are looking sick)… But yeah, good times,” Kohli added.

At the present point in time, all Virat has been doing is spending time at his residence along with spouse Anushka Sharma. However, amidst the lockdown period, he hasn’t forgotten his workouts. He last played back in February during India’s Test series against New Zealand where he couldn’t get a whole lot of runs. He is next set to play for the RCB in the 2020 edition of the IPL.
