It seems that the Indian Government is the one which will take the final call whether to boycott Pakistan in the upcoming World Cup or not. The arch-rivals are scheduled to face each other on June 16 in Manchester at the Old Trafford but the recent Pulwama attacks have put the future of the clash in the doldrums. While the former cricketers have different opinions on the matter, the India head coach Ravi Shastri has cleared that the team will obey the Government’s decision.

“It’s entirely left to the BCCI and the government. They know exactly what is happening and they will take a call. We will go by what they decide. If the government says it’s that sensitive you do not need to play the World Cup, I will go by my government,” Shastri said while speaking to Mumbai Mirror.

Recent developments

A lot is happening in India on the highest level ever since the Pulwama attack has taken place. The BCCI is also pondering seriously over boycotting the game against Pakistan in the World Cup. The Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai, on Friday, cleared that the BCCI will be sending a letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the matter and also request them not to organise the bilateral ties with Pakistan.

“We are sending a letter to ICC raising our concerns about Pakistan which are mainly security concerns. In future, we are telling ICC that no bilateral ties should be organised with nations that have ties with terrorism,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Next.

Moreover, Rai also informed that there won’t be any opening ceremony for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season and all the money which was supposed to be spent will be donated to the martyred jawans in the Pulwama attack. “There will be no IPL opening ceremony. Instead, the money will be donated to Pulwama martyrs,” the CoA chief further said.
